Before the official start of the 2007-08 legislative biennium, Speaker of the House Norelli appointed me to my first-choice committee, Science, Technology & Energy (ST&E). The surprise was that she asked me to be the committee’s Vice Chair.
This has been an incredible experience for me—not just being a part of leadership in the House, but also learning about such topics as our electric grid, how New Hampshire utilities work, the Public Utilities Commission, telecommunications, and the environmental issues that come to our committee.
The Governor’s initiative to have 25% of NH’s energy come from renewable energy sources by 2025 combined with my specific interest in renewables and my membership in the Governor’s Task Force on Climate Change, point to all the work I still want to do and the goals we need to meet. Working on environmental issues is one major reason why I'm running for reelection, but there are other issues needing attention that are very compelling for me.
Why I'm Running for Reelection
In addition to my particular interest in the environment, I also care deeply about our most vulnerable populations: the elderly; those with physical and mental disabilities; and our state’s children, especially those at risk. Each group has special needs, as do folks with substance abuse problems, and I’ve been honored to also be appointed this term to serve on the Governor’s Commission on Alcohol & Drug Prevention, Intervention & Treatment.
My priorities for a new term also include:
-- supporting affordable, accessible healthcare
--demanding our public education system serve all children equally and with excellence
--safeguarding NH's environment and natural resources
--encouraging clean energy for our homes, businesses and transportation
--promoting energy efficiency
--seeking new sources of economic development in NH
--building on the good work our legislature accomplished in '07-'08, and
--defending Nashua's interests in Concord
I invite you to take a moment and stroll through this website. You'll learn more not only about how I’ve been involved, but also about how you, too, can become more involved in our community here in Nashua and in our state government.
