Governor's Climate Change Policy Task Force

Gov. Lynch put forward an Executive Order establishing his Climate Change Policy Task Force to "work in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Services to produce a Climate Change Action Plan that establishes climate change goals and recommends meaningful steps to meet those goals."

Suzanne was appointed as one of two House members to the 28-member Task Force. The group split into several Working Groups that tackled various segments that are either affected by or play a part in climate change, such as agriculture and transportation. Suzanne joined the Electric Generation and Usage Working Group and participated in their weekly conference calls over a period of time and attends meetings of full Task Force.

The Governor's Charge to the Task Force

a. Recommend quantified goals for reductions of NH greenhouse gas given the inventory of NH greenhouse gas emissions and emission projections.

b. Recommend specific regulatory, voluntary and policy actions, based on Stakeholder input, that the state should consider to achieve its greenhouse gas reduction goals.

c. Hold at least 1 public hearing on the proposed Plan and appropriately consider all stakeholder comments.

d. Submit a Climate Change Action Plan and recommendations to the Governor by September 1, 2008.

The Task Force found that the amount of work needed to complete the report was too great to meet the September deadline. We requested and were granted an extension by the Governor to December.

Public Listening Sessions
Public listening sessions regarding the Task Force's work are scheduled in various locations in September. The closest one to Nashua will be held on Thursday, September 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the PSNH Auditorium at 780 North Commercial Street in Manchester.
